Issue One Action applauds bipartisan momentum to strengthen ECA, urges final passage this year

Washington, DC – September 27, 2022 –  In a historic vote just last week, the House passed critical legislation to modernize and strengthen the Electoral Count Act with bipartisan support, and following today’s successful Senate Rules Committee markup of the bipartisan Electoral Count Reform Act, led by committee chair Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D‑MN) and ranking member Sen. Roy Blunt (R‑MO), Issue One Action CEO Nick Penniman issued the following statement:

“This tremendous display of bipartisanship is deeply heartening. It shows that Republicans and Democrats can come together to safeguard future presidential elections from foul play, and do so in a way that respects the will of the voters. It’s time for members in both Chambers to work together on the final details and pass an ECA update this year. When future generations witness the final stages of presidential elections, they will, without knowing it, have a debt of gratitude to the House and Senate leaders who are moving this important legislation forward."

This week, Issue One Action also launched a new digital advertising blitz thanking each of the 22 cosponsors on the Senate’s Electoral Count Reform Act, urging members to pass a full and complete update to the ECA this year.
